Gatineau Park Climbing Access Threatened
Dec 19, 2009
The National Capital Commission (NCC) is conducting an environmental study to determine climbing’s impact on the local vegetation. The study’s results will likely be used to justify significant climbing closures in Gatineau Park.
The Ottawa Gatineau Climbers’ Coalition (OGCC) is fighting to prevent these closures and needs the support of Ontario climbers.
“Closing access to an activity that promotes a love of the natural environment and a healthy lifestyle would be a shame for future generations,” said Chris Jackson of the OGCC.
Like most other Ontario climbing areas, climbing in Gatineau Park has existed prior to the park’s creation.
