Fear Of Mandatory Climbing Helmet Laws Unwarranted
Sep 07, 2010
The rumours of mandatory climbing helmet laws for southern Ontario (first reported on Ontario Climbing on July 8 and July 29, 2010) had Ontario climbers concerned about excessive regulatory actions by land managers. It now seems that many of these fears were unwarranted as the Ontario Access Coalition (OAC) has confirmed that Halton Region Conservation Authority (HRCA) will not be implementing a helmet law.
Fears of mandatory helmet laws emerged when two climbers were banned from Bon Echo for not wearing helmets. These concerns were further fuelled when staff from Mount Nemo conservation area approached two climbers and informed them about the upcoming implementation of mandatory helmet laws.
